Nine Star Ki is the Japanese reading of the nine stars — a calendrical reckoning rather than an astronomical one: it does not ask where the planets stood but which year and month you were born into. One thing is got wrong more often than anything else: the year here does not begin on 1 January but around 4 February. Anyone born in January still belongs to the previous year — we count it correctly. A birth date is all it takes.
